The words of Anna L. Barbauld are familiar to us in the poetry we find in two hymns in our hymnal -- HWB # 91 and 92. The following stanzas, excerpted from these two hymns connote seasons of prosperity and adversity in our lives. Join us on Sunday to hear more about this poem and to sing together in worship.
Praise to God, immortal praise, for the love that crowns our days. Bounteous Source of ev’ry joy, let thy praise our tongues employ.
Lord, should rising whirlwinds tear from its stem the rip’ning ear, should the fig tree’s blasted shoot drop her green untimely fruit;
Yet to thee my soul should raise grateful vows and solemn praise, and, when ev’ry blessing’s flown, love thee for thyself alone!
